Our Roots

How it all began…

The story of Joseph Victori Wines is one of passion, perseverance, and family tradition that dates back over a century. In 1910, Joseph Victori began his journey as an importer of fine Spanish wines, driven by a deep appreciation for the craft and the belief that exceptional wines should be shared with the world. His early success laid the groundwork for what would become a thriving family business.

By 1920, Joseph Victori & Co. had established offices in New York City, cementing its reputation as a trusted importer of premium Spanish wines and foods. With an entrepreneurial spirit, the company expanded internationally with offices in Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Spain, forging meaningful relationships with winemakers and producers.

In 1929, a new chapter began when Frederico Umbach, the ambitious son-in-law of Joseph Victori, married Mary Victori, Joseph’s beloved daughter. Frederico brought with him not only a keen business sense but a shared passion for wine and its rich history. As he gradually took over the reins of the company, the Victori legacy was secured and carried forward with love and dedication. Frederico’s leadership expanded the company’s reach and influence, shaping it into a trusted name in the world of wine.

Now, four generations later, Joseph Victori Wines remains a proud family-owned business, still guided by the core values set by Joseph Victori himself. Today, under the tenure of John Umbach, the grandson of Joseph Victori, the company has blossomed into a highly respected importer of wines from renowned regions including Chile, Italy, Germany, and France. With a distribution network that spans over 40 states, we continue to honor the timeless traditions of our family while embracing the ever-evolving world of wine.
